The nude model is seated on a sofa, half-reclined, leaning on her right arm, her right leg barely resting on the floor, her left leg raised, folded over the sofa seat. Sketches of a wooden armchair and of fabrics complete the upper right-hand section of this drawing sheet, which has been left blank in its entire lower left-hand section.
The pose is full of tension and relaxation: the left arm stretched out and the fingers of the left hand spread wide over the right thigh, the right arm and left leg folded in on themselves.
The model seems lost in thought, her face with its more worked features contrasts with the just sketched curves of her body, whose limbs’ positions draw multiple diagonals and interlocking triangles.
Aline, a superb butterfly, landed in the artist’s studio for a charcoal sketch, then flew away, leaving the sheet of paper half-empty, just filled in at the bottom with her name.
