View of the church of San Simeone Piccolo and its characteristic large green dome, located at the entrance to the Grand Canal of Venice, painted slightly sideways, from the other quay. In the foreground, a pontoon with three people from behind, two women and a child in a gondolier hat, as well as the stern of a vaporetto parked at the Riva de Biasio stop.
The canvas is built in a grid pattern with four horizontal strips parallel to the water and the church vertically. With its oversized dome and theatrical staircase leading out to the water, San Simeone Piccolo seems to connect the sky to the water of the canal.
Interference of light and colour reacts between the facades of the buildings, the water of the canal and the clouds: this is the Venetian mystery to which the artist invites us and which the three spectators in the foreground share with us.
