Place Saint-André-des-Arts under the snow

Superb view of the Place Saint-André-des-Arts on a winter snowy evening, snow-covered under a glowing sky. Three skeletal trees, four lit street lamps including the one at the metro entrance, a Morris column on the right, a newspaper kiosk on the left, play with their reflections on the snowy pavement illuminated by the lights of the bars in front of the facades and walls of the Parisian buildings rising towards the sky.

A strong dialogue between luminous yellows and intense pinks, in the midst of blue greys and more muted mauve browns, on a well-constructed grid of volumes and perspectives where the eye never tires.

Germaine Lacaze’s painting is theatrical, the scenes follow one another and one cannot but be carried away by the poetic force of the atmosphere of this Parisian view.
