This very nice little painting depicts a beach scene on the Bay of Arcachon.
The family is huddled together in the shade of a parasol in the heat of the beach. A grove of pine trees in the background refreshes the scene, more so than the water’s edge in the foreground.
This lively and warm canvas radiates with luminosity. The painter’s eye amplifies the lights and shadows: no half-heartedness in the colours and sketches of characters painted in a few strokes by Germaine Lacaze’s brush, which, through a heat that we guess is stifling, only stains the luminous vibrations.
