The dark blue water in the foreground, the off-axis architecture of the three gondolas and the unbalanced gondoliers on each of them, contrast with the straight and luminous calm of San Giorgio.

The high canvas converges on the white Palladian façade framed by two oval crescents, the one of the sky and the one of the black gondola crossing the water laterally in the centre of the canvas.
