Venice, at the vaporetto

One of the very first Venetian candles in which the artist shows us a slice of the Grand Canal with, from bottom to top, all the elements of her Venetian style : exaggeratedly curved gondolas in the foreground, water spaces with reflections coloured by broad strokes, a vaporetto energising the scene, and Gothic façades as a background under a slightly cloudy sky.

Under the artist’s eye and brush, Venice is a symphony of coloured touches with a few architectural forms (gondolas, vaporetto, gothic windows) to give rhythm to her magical vision of the Serenissima.

Only the lantern hanging in the upper right-hand corner seems to link us to the real world.
