Beautiful watercolour of Venice with the skyline of the Salute seen against the light at sunset from the riva degli Schiavoni, certainly from one of the balconies of the Hotel Gabrielli Sandwirth where Germaine Lacaze regularly stayed.

The play of light and shadow, the interweaving of the triangular shapes of the quay and the basin, the alternation of large patches of assertive colours (green, orange-red, brown) with much paler areas: everything is a game of transparency for the watercolourist’s eye and brush.
