The masts of the two sailboats provide verticals. If silhouettes of boaters at the foot of the sailboats enliven the beach scene, it is the reflections in the sun and in the shade of the swollen sails in the foreground that snap on our retinas.

Our gaze advances in the middle on a sunny sandy path towards rows of tents and pines that horizontally frame the upper part of the canvas and bring us back to the foreground.
